December's feature show in the Wetherbee Planetarium traces the history and development of many of the world's most endearing holiday customs, all of which involve lighting up the winter season — from the burning Yule log, sparkling Christmas tree lights and candles in windows, to the lighting of luminaries in the American Southwest and the traditional ritual of the Hanukkah Menorah. Homeschool Day is a 90-minute program designed for students in K-5th grade. It starts at 11 am and is conducted on the second Thursday of the month from September through May. Each month’s session incorporates a current AMA art exhibition and includes an art project that connects with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) education, gallery tours and more. The cost for Homeschool Day is $5 per student for AMA members and $10 per student for future members. Students who participate in Homeschool Day will be asked to comply with AMA visitation policies, including the wearing of masks for the protection of other students and AMA staff. Campers will take daily trips to the Zoo, meet new animals, and enjoy daily games, activities, and crafts. Camps are perfect for children ages 5-12. Camp runs from 9a - 3p each day. Camper drop-off is from 8:30- 9 am and camper pick-up is from 3- 3:30 pm. Each day of camp is $30. Members get a 10% discount on all camps. Single Day Registration Available. After Camp Care is available from 3-6 each day for an additional $10. Members receive 50% off. Claws-tro-phobic Investigation- Dec. 21-24 Frozen Expedition- Dec. 28-31 Team Chehaw is committed to the safety of our campers, staff, and zoological collection. We are using the CDC Camp Guidelines and AZA COVID-19 Zoological Guidelines. Please see below for an outline of the extra safety measures our staff has implemented. In addition to daily disinfection of our indoor space and toys, we have modified our camp structure: Groups sizes have been reduced to 10-12 campers Campers, counselors, and youth volunteers will not swap groups in an effort to limit exposure We are unable to offer before-camp-care or after-camp-care; to limit exposure we cannot introduce a different counselor for before and after camp care Campers, staff and volunteers will have their temperature checked throughout the day Each group will have their own indoor space, supplies, and toys, groups and supplies are not permitted to swap between indoor spaces Campers will be socially distanced at all times while outdoors Campers will be required to wear a mask indoors and be spaced when possible Campers will have their own cubby or space for personal items Campers must bring their own lunch; we are unable to offer lunches Go >
