Fitness on the Flint presented by Ambetter from Peach State Health Plan Saturday, September 19. 229 Funtional Fitness by Tony's Gym will host the workout, TABATA, and attendees will enjoy the choce of Tennesse Lemonade or a Beer after class concludes! Please bring your own mat and towel for class. Participants must be 16 or older to participate in the workout. Class will start at 10:30AM, check-in will start at 10:00AM. Tabata!! Tabata is a form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) that's been proven to torch serious calories quickly. In a Tabata workout, each round lasts four minutes. It requires 20 seconds of all out intensity, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated eight times. We will apply the fundamentals of CrossFit, defined as constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. Functional exercises are ones that mimic real-life movements, and usually require little to no equipment, like burpees, push-ups, and sit-ups, combined with running and other cardio activities. These classes will be scalable for everyone, from the advanced athlete to the beginner. Everyone will get a good sweat on. Let us be your classroom! Skip the screen and join us for a day of hands-on learning at the Flint RiverQuarium and Thronateeska Heritage Center. Our education team has designed a whole day of educational activities for ages 5-12 with a different theme each month. In September, join us as we learn about all things scaly and slimy as we delve into the world of reptiles and amphibians. The fun doesn't stop there! We will get a chance to meet some of these critters up-close and personal during animal encounters. Students will spend time with our trained educators during our Classroom Days, which are designed around State Learning Standards to introduce and reinforce content that students are learning in school. Each day will include a trip to the Flint RiverQuarium or Thronateeska, an animal encounter, and a visit to Turtle Grove Park for our recess/active time, as well as additional crafts and learning-based games and activities. Ambetter by Peach Sate Health Plan and Michelob Ultra presents the very first Flint River Entertainment Complex 5K Race Series. The Race Series will have two registration options. Runners who only want to participate in a single 5K Event should choose their race of choice, and pay a $25 registration fee. Single race registration fees will include; two training sessions, entry to the race, and a t-shirt. Runners who would like to participate in the complete race series (all three races) should choose the FREC 5K Race Series – All 3 Races option, and pay a $65 registration fee. Series race registration fees will include; two training sessions per 5K event, entry to all three 5k race events, a t-shirt, and a 1 complementary drink option, to be offered at the end of each 5K race event. There will also be a 1-Mile Fun Run open to all ages, available for $10. *ALL Training sessions will take place on the two Friday’s prior to the actual 5K race day. Homeschool Day is a 90-minute program designed for students in K-5th grade. It starts at 11 am and is conducted on the second Thursday of the month from September through May. Each month’s session incorporates a current AMA art exhibition and includes an art project that connects with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) education, gallery tours and more. The cost for Homeschool Day is $5 per student for AMA members and $10 per student for future members. Students who participate in Homeschool Day will be asked to comply with AMA visitation policies, including the wearing of masks for the protection of other students and AMA staff.
